The Akka Mahadevi Caves derive their name from Akka Mahadevi, a renowned philosopher, ascetic, and lyricist who lived in Karnataka during the 12th century AD. These caves hold historical and spiritual importance as Akka Mahadevi is said to have meditated in this cave and revered the naturally formed Sivalinga located deep within its dark chambers.

Akka Mahadevi Caves also features a natural Rock Arch, standing majestically without any external support. This geological marvel spans approximately 200 feet in length, 16 feet in height, and 4 feet in width.

To reach the Siva Linga, visitors must navigate through a narrow tunnel that progressively narrows, necessitating crawling and sideways walking. The atmosphere at the end of the cave, where the Siva Linga is situated, lacks sufficient oxygen, making it challenging to breathe freely.
